Spirits of the Chine (2018)
Painted and framed in the Chine, using ivy wood harvested from the trees that surrounded my workshop and home. The painting was ‘automatic’ - inspired by the ‘automatic drawings’ of Austin Osman Spare. I allowed my subconscious to guide my brush, random shapes, gradually the three figures appeared. The ivy wood used to form the frame was harvested, stripped of its bark, seasoned for two years and oiled.
